

The Veterans Committee of TWU Local 250A is chaired by Al Gonzalez, Veteran, US Army. The primary mission of the Veterans Committee is to strengthen our Local’s military veterans by providing support, guidance, pathways to resources and information on available benefits.

Pre-need eligibility for burial in a VA cemetery… Veterans, service members, and some family members may be eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery. You can apply to find out in advance if you’re eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery. This is called a pre-need determination of eligibility-and it can help make the burial planning process easier for your family members in their time of need.

National Park Military Lifetime Pass… this free pass covers the entrance or standard amenity (day-use) fees at national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, and other federal recreational lands. The free Military Passes admit the pass holder as well as occupants of a single, private non-commercial vehicle OR the pass holder and three persons (16 and older) where per person fees are charged.

Distinguished Veteran Pass… this free pass entitles the bearer to free vehicle day use, family camping and boat use at over 100 California State Parks-operated units.

Veteran Designation on California Driver License and ID Card… eligible veterans have the opportunity to add the word “VETERAN” to the front of their California driver license or ID card to indicate that they have served in the U.S. Military. It can also play a critical role in enabling access to certain privileges, and benefits associated with being a veteran without having to carry VA ID or DD-214.
Veteran ID Card… a Veteran ID Card (VIC) is a digital form of photo ID you can use to get discounts offered to Veterans at many restaurants, hotels, stores, and other businesses.

College Tuition Fee Waiver for Dependents… The College Fee Waiver for Veteran Dependents benefit waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at any State of California Community College, California State University, or University of California campus. There are four plans under which dependents of Veterans may be eligible.

County Veteran Service Offices (CVSO)… are key agencies in providing California’s veterans with assistance and connection to benefits and services in local communities throughout the state. CVSOs are a critical component in the state’s efforts to work directly with individual veterans and their families to ensure our Veterans receive benefits they earned through their service to our Nation.

Department of Veterans Affairs… provides lifelong healthcare services to eligible military veterans at the 170 VA medical centers and outpatient clinics located throughout the country. Non-healthcare benefits include disability compensation, vocational rehabilitation, education assistance, home loans, and life insurance. The VA also provides burial and memorial benefits to eligible veterans and family members at 135 national cemeteries.
VA Health Care Benefits… If you qualify for VA health care, you’re covered for regular checkups with your primary care provider and appointments with specialists (like cardiologists, gynecologists, and mental health providers). You can access services like home health and geriatric (elder) care. And you can get medical equipment, prosthetics, and prescriptions. Apply for and manage the health care benefits you’ve earned.

National Archives… Request a copy of your DD214 and other military service records.

ID.me… Create an account to securely verify your military service for exclusive discounts with participating retailers and to verify your identity when accessing government services online with agencies such as EDD, SSA, VA, and the IRS.
DoD Installation Access… Eligible Veterans and caregivers now have access to DoD installations for medical appointments, tax-free shopping at commissaries and exchanges, and certain morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) services such as golf courses, bowling centers, recreational lodging, RV campgrounds and movie theaters.
Online Exchange Shopping for Veterans… Honorably discharged veterans, including Reserves, are eligible to register online and shop tax-free at any of the online exchanges (AAFES, NEXCOM, MCX and CGX) regardless of their branch of service.
